There are a lot of reasons why packages get delayed, and you might wonder what they are.  While some are obvious, many times especially during the holiday seasons, with all the orders they’ve got to take care of, it can be a bit frustrating. 

Here are some of the main reasons why your package may not be here yet. 

Weather 

Inclement weather is a very common reason for a delivery delay.  This disrupts the entire process, or even just a bit of it, and it causes an extended time of transit. It also has a huge effect on the roads, so it can impact delivery. 

Sometimes, roads are so dangerous that a driver can’t drive to the warehouse.  They might have to wait before it’s safe to get back to; driving.

Sometimes, they also might need to use alternative routes, which for some truckers, may be impossible due to the sizes. It’s frustrating, but bad weather is very unsafe, as it can impact visibility, the traction of the car, and other reasons too. 

Shutting down terminals is another common reason. Bad weather can shut this down, so it will delay the packages. Some may be able to leave, but not everything. 

Power outages, especially at terminals, also creates a massive blow. 

Sometimes as well, traffic jams due to the bad weather can impact people getting the packages to you.

Losing Packages 

Sometimes, the delay is due to the package being lost, where in this case, the person getting this will not know whether the package is even arriving at all. It may be in the system, but they might not be able to get to the destination due to issues. The sender might have not correctly filled out the form, and they might’ve had documents left incomplete.

Without an address on there, it then gets lost in a certain way. 

But there are also times where it’s misplaced, fallen from the truck, or even stolen.  That’s very rare though.  The label may also be a problem too, especially if there is bad printing, or illegibility in some cases, which can impact and create delays. 

Failed Delivery Attempts

The customer is usually at fault for this in this case. If they miss the attempts to deliver, it’s considered unsuccessful. 

They won’t wait very long, as it will delay everything else, and they usually don’t go back to similar addresses on the same day, so the package will get delayed.

It does show up when you look at tracking information, especially if you’re worried about it.  they do try to attempt it again at the next available date. However, if they continue to not be able to deliver it, they’ll then send it back, so you should make sure to contact the shipper in this instance. 

The label may be missing or wrong, so it can create an incomplete or an incorrect delivery address. Even typos play a part in the delay of such. 

 Lots of Packages 

Finally, you might experience a delay due to the sheer number of packages. Online shopping, especially during the holidays, is not at an all-time high.

A lot of couriers are aptly prepared, but sometimes, the demand is so great that delivery delays become almost inevitable in some cases. Some customers need to plan carefully when they purchase stuff online.  You should get the items early in order to prevent the holiday rush. If they’re not delivered in the right time, it may not be the courier, but yourself to blame.  Some also may have deadlines for shipping too.
